Tom Garfield has lived in Moscow since 1977, after four years in the US Navy. A life-long love of art was encouraged by his grandfather who worked as an illustrator in Michigan. Like his grandfather, Tom largely paints in watercolor. He has a BFA in Art and Education from the UI, and teaches high school art at Logos School (where he is also the superintendent). Moscow and the Palouse present many varied and attractive subjects for his paintings: weathered barns, rusted metal on tall grain elevators, and wide-open fields, in summer or winter, all evoke the joy of living here. Tom and his wife Julie have four children and four grand-children (so far).
